Circle of Friendz seems like more of an interlude than New World and they didn't even need lyrics to make it a decent payoff.COMING TO CINEMAS GLOBALLY ON 8th DECEMBER New World would have been a better closer or opener for the album but I really like the lead in I Switched my Robot Off had into Ascension. I actually quite liked We Got the Power when they released he first 4 tracks but I like it for the cheesiness too so it's a good closer for the album but something darker like Demon Days wouldn't quite fit a dance album but Circle of Friendz just misses all of those elements completely. I lived the smashing introduction and the circle of friends lines to begin with where good but then that was it? It's like they tried to do Demon Days and failed, I get it but there could be more lyrics or a build and then fade out like Demon Days had.
I suppose it's a mix of the two by really bad. I didn't know the hat to expect from Circle of Friendz and it wasn't being promoted as a big thing so I explained either a really good story based closer or chilled out something. I really agree totally grew to appreciate Strobelite and realise it's probably because I heard the genre a lot as a kid that I don't appreciate the lack of it nowadays for fans and I'm not really much of a fan of it anyway. It's not very well-put, but that's what I get from it (and my only qualm is the introduction, purely because if I'm in a pumped up mood it does quell it a tad). Combine that with 2D's happiest vocals on the album (after such depressing songs as Busted and Blue and Hallelujah Money) and you get a song that you can bump to harder than other ones on the album - a cheery and almost fittingly 'out of body' experience for both 2D and the listener. The lyrics are catchy and off-kilter, the backing beat hits hard and almost makes you bounce, and then you're hit by an earworm-esque murmur of a chorus that breaks up the commotion and gives you a break every time it reoccurs. There's something particular and singular on that song in the Gorillaz library, and in music in general seemingly. Otherwise, it's easily one of my most played songs on Humanz.
